Chitungwiza and Manyame Rural Residents Association (CAMERA) on Friday the 1st of June 2018 partnered the Transparency International Zimbabwe (TIZ) on election integrity. The workshop was held at the Leisure Centre in Chitungwiza as a way of contributing to the holding of a free, fair and credible election in the country this year. This was done through emphasizing the need by citizens to demand electoral transparency and honesty from the electoral management board and other players involved in the running of the forthcoming harmonized elections.
The CAMERA Director, Marvellous Kumalo delivered a presentation on “Post Election Anti-Corruption Road Map: How to Ensure a Corruption Free Zimbabwe Post 2018 Elections?” The presentation looked at the major drivers of corruption in Zimbabwe and the ways of tackling them as a strategy of reducing or eradicating the scourge of corruption. The workshop was attended by 64 participants drawn from residents, informal traders and the youth.
Some of the ways of combating corruption that were discussed include proper planning and equitable distribution of state resources, devolution of governmental authority, a water tight legal framework which forces the government and its agencies to be accountable to the citizens and free access to public-interest information among others.
