Dear Joana . . .

When MP Joana Mamombe spent two months in pre-trial detention recently, we invited our subscribers to send their messages of support which we would pass on to her lawyer. Here are some of their contributions.

Dear Joana,

I just said a prayer for you now, may God give you renewed strength to face each day. I pray that even in such a horrible situation you may find peace in your heart. Thank you for your love, support and resilience. I am so sorry that you are going through this.

Take care.

Warm regards,
Concerned stranger

Dearest Joanna, I have prayed for you for quite some time now , that our Lord would strengthen encourage and protect you. You are admired and loved by so many of us for your bravery in the face of oppression.
I send you Isaiah 41:10:
“So do not fear, for I am with you,
Do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you,
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

May your suffering be over soon.

For Joanna
There is no one like the God of Jeshurun, who rides across the heavens to help you and on the clouds in his majesty. The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. Deut 33:26-27

“Let him who walks in the dark , who had no light , trust in the name of the Lord and rely on God….. My righteousness draws near, my salvation is on the way and my arm will bring justice.. so lift your eyes to the heavens. Do not fear the reproach of men or be terrified by their insults… rather clothe your self with strenghth” Isaiah 50 v 10, 50 v 5- 7
Courage Joanne. The Lord sees and knows.

Be assured of the prayers of many Christian friends around the world in your present fiery ordeal.

I commend to you the words of the Psalmist:

“Many are the woes of the wicked, but the Lord’s unfailing love surrounds the one who trusts in him. Rejoice in the Lord and be glad, you righteous sing; sing, all you who are upright in heart !” (Psalm 32/10-11)

And the words of our Lord himself who suffered the greatest injustice of all time:

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5/10)

The Lord bless you and keep you.

The lord is my shepherd I shall not want ! Psalm 23:1
Praying for you

Dear Jo,

You continue to inspire courage and hope in us even in the face of this unimaginable abuse and trauma – trauma not only to you as an individual, but to family and loved ones.

There are days I wish you wouldn’t have to stand in the gap for us. These Zimbabweans are mostly a passive, gullible, and sadly unappreciative people. Perhaps that’s where decades-long oppression has got us…

Still, I wish you strength inconceivable. The kind that transcends physical and emotional pain… The kind no manner of cell or whip could conquer. And true to your name, tine Ruvimbo ino nyika ichava izvo tinoshuvirawo – and this, long before we are returned to the dust.

And we will sing your name along with the others who have stood. And our children’s children will hear of it. Yes, they will hear of it ALL. That few stood for the many… That is the way of history – it forgets nothing…

Aluta my MP… Long is the night, but the morning cometh!

Dearest Joanna. Please know that you are not forgotten…we are thinking of you & praying for you every day. God will not ever leave you & we hope this promise will bring you the comfort & hope that no human can do. With lots of love from Cape Town🌻

Praying this for you from the US Joana

They can torture you rape or what but the truth will prevail God is with you one day you will get back your freedom.

Dear Joana,

Tonight we sat around the table and prayed for you. We, fellow Zimbabweans, remembered you in your suffering and brought you before our mighty God and loving Father. Our reading tonight was from Psalm 54. So appropriate! We read this:

Psalm 54:4-5
Behold, God is my helper;
the Lord is the upholder of my life.
He will return the evil to my enemies.

May the Lord uphold you and sustain you. He is able. May His grace overflow towards you. May evil recoil on those who perpetrate it. May the Lord deliver you from trouble.

Our love and our prayers are with you

Psalm37:38-40
The Lord saves the godly He is their fortress in times of trouble. The Lord helps them rescuing them from the wicked. He saves them and they find shelter in Him.
Lord shelter Joana today, be her fortress and rescue her completely.

For Joana
Here is your word for today:

Verse: Exodus 4:12

‘Now go ahead and do as I tell you, for I will help you…’

  • If we know that God is helping us, we can go on.
  • God gave Moses an impossible task to do.
  • But with His help, an impossible task became an inevitable success.
  • With God’s help, you can accomplish more than you could have imagined.

PRAYER: Lord, please help me to do what You tell me to do. May I walk in obedience and enjoy the wonderful privilege of knowing that You are helping me to do what I could never achieve in my own strength. In Jesus name Amen.

“For the LORD hears the cries of the needy; he does not despise his imprisoned people.”
Psalm 69:33.
We are praying for you, Joanna.

Message for Joanna

Joanna, praying for you from Bulawayo. Do not lose hope, cling to Jesus. May the Lord Almighty, King of Heaven and earth protect you and keep you in His care.

John 6:38-40
For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”
