One year on – Zimbabweans’ thoughts on the election anniversary

With the anniversary of the 2018 Harmonised Elections, we asked our members for their input:

Speak out!
This time last year, Zimbabweans were voting in the 2018 Harmonised Elections. One year later, how are you feeling? How has the past year been for you?

Here is what some people said:

I am beyond sad. I am one of those people who used to say, “Home is best”. I still believe this, but home for me now is a place I can dare to dream. A place where my children’s future is not held at ransom. A place where ‘at least’ is not used in relation to water, electricity, cash, travelling documents, healthcare and even food. I am in search of my new home, I will not rest until I find it. One year later I believe Zimbabwe has no place for me.

Not surprised about the current state of things to be honest. The run up to the elections, the elections themselves and the way they were conducted were a prelude to what we are experiencing now.
