Women of Africa Profile

Women of Africa (WoA)is a trust, non-partisan, not-for-profit-making organization working towards advancing the rights of girls and women in Zimbabwe through supporting their dreams, and protecting them from all kinds of violence in the society (15-35 years). Our mission is to improve the quality of life of young girls and women – where advocacy, education promotion, rights awareness, and skills development work to address the challenges affecting the vulnerabilities of women and girls in Zimbabwe. Currently, WoA has a membership of about 100 women and men. WoA is a youth led and youth driven organization and is based in Gweru, Midlands Province.

Women of Africa works on 5 thematic areas namely:

  • Healthcare services
  • Education
  • Women empowerment and Gender Equality
  • Peace and Governance
  • Livelihoods and Food security.

The organization is implementing small activities mainly in the areas of HIV/AIDS impact mitigation through non-clinical care and support programs such as nutritional support, community-based care, income generating activities, Anti-retroviral Therapy (ART) adherence and treatment literacy, prevention of mother to child transmission, and awareness creation about HIV/AIDS to the whole community. We have also been implementing programs tailored at girls and women’s participation in democratic processes and also child marriages and child exploitation and on gender based violence.
