The Election Resource Centre (ERC) is a think tank and advocacy organization organisation on electoral and democracy issues in Zimbabwe.
Following numerous reports of anomalies in the voters roll, ERC welcomes the move by ZEC to avail voters roll inspection at a no cost platform through mobile phone shortcodes on Econet and Netone lines. Section 21 of the Electoral Act states that the voters roll is a public document and open to inspection by the public, free of charge and the ERC applauds ZEC for making the voters roll accessible.
We urge the Electoral Commission to continuously address concerns by stakeholders throughout the electoral cycle as a confidence building mechanism. A voters roll is a document that every citizen and political party has interest in and to that regard the Commission must aim to provide this without that will be presumed as making the electoral process unfairly skewed.
