Background

Tariro Foundation of Zimbabwe Trust (TFZT) is an organization working towards the empowerment and inclusion of people with disabilities in various sectors. The organization works towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for people with disabilities. It operates from Mutare, Manicaland Province of Zimbabwe and was registered as a Trust in May 2018. The organization was established after noticing gaps in the communities which include the provision of education, health services, access to buildings, participation in community development, access to information and assistive devices. Since inception Tariro Foundation of Zimbabwe has tasked itself to work towards helping reduce the existing gaps and advocate for upholding of Disability Rights as enshrined in the Constitution of Zimbabwe and the United Nations Charter Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD). The organization has spearheaded programmes that have meaningful involvement of persons with disabilities in various developmental programmes. Disability representation has been one of the areas of priority since the inception of the organization in 2018.

Area of Focus and Beneficiaries

The organisation’s primary area of focus is on disability inclusion and empowerment. There is great need to ensure people with disabilities are involved in issues that also concern their survival within the communities and they are empowered as to enhance their self-sufficiency. Advocating for the removal of barriers that hinder participation of people with disabilities in the communities and at various levels of governance.

Area of Operation

The organization has authority to operate in Manicaland Province with Memorandums Of Understanding (MOUs) with Mutare and Makoni District local authorities hence it is the operation area of Tariro Foundation of Zimbabwe Trust.
