Agape Community Trust Profile

Agape Community Trust (ACT) is a CBO operating in Kariba and Hurungwe Districts striving to build support for persons with disabilities (PWD). ACT strives to be a reputable leading organisation in empowering and supporting women, men and children with disabilities living in vulnerable communities of Zimbabwe. The organisation strives to achieve this through its four thematic areas:

  • Women’s Empowerment
  • Education
  • Social Protection
  • Health and Nutrition

Using small contributions gathered from the community of operation we have has run the *Charity For Brenda Project* (CFB) under the Sustainable Development Goal Number 3, this changed Brenda Manyoni’s life. The lady, who has been suffering from a cancerous wound (and the leg was decomposing) since 2015 and had twice attempted suicide got assistance. The young woman has been to Zambia’s Mtendere Mission Hospital for chemotherapy and to Lusaka to see an oncologist. She was successfully amputated.

ACT also embarked on a *Shelter for the Disadvantaged Girl* under the Sustainable Development Goal Number 11. The project saw a two roomed house being established for a girl with disability at her rural home in Nyaminyami Rural District Council. Under the same project, a Blair toilet awaits its completion.

Two bales of clothes and food stuffs have been gathered from the urban community and sent to Brenda for resale. This has transformed the girl’s life. The organisation is working with youth to produce educative posters on domestic and international instruments about disability. These have been designed and shared to WhatsApp platforms particularly School Head platforms and these have started to embrace and implement some of the calls on the posters. Currently, ACT is the only CBO operating in Kariba whose mission is solely on disabilities. The the newly registered organisation is recruiting volunteer enumerators to come up with a database for PWDs in Kariba District.

Though ACT involves people from Social Welfare, the local authorities CEOs and churches, the organisation has plans to have Memorandums of Understanding with the two local authorities in the district so that the operation becomes official. We have our energy on WhatsApp where we are made up of philanthropists from all over Zimbabwe and these have influenced communities to contribute towards disability.
