The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has released a press statement listing the names of those who have been nominated for the 9 vacant High Court Judge positions. The interviews are the next step in the appointment process, as laid down in section 180(4) of the Constitution. [The first stage was last month’s public call by the JSC to the public and to the President to nominate suitably qualified persons to be appointed as Judges of the High Court, as notified by Veritas in Court Watch 12/2021 of 20th June, in which the background to the nine vacancies was explained].
The JSC will conduct the public interviews from the Monday 26th – Wednesday 28th July 2021 at the Rainbow Towers Hotel.
In the current press statement, the JSC, discourages the public to attend the interviews in person and instead directs the public to the JSC media platforms on Twitter and Facebook where the interviews will be livestreamed. The JSC further notes that they are in talks with Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation, to have the interviews broadcasted live.
Thirty-six (36) valid nominations were received and the candidates will be interviewed on the dates below :
