The Vendors Initiative for Social and Economic Transformation(VISET) was in Gokwe Central Ward 6 for yet another installment of its series of pre-budget seminars.
The meeting, which was saw participants in the 18-35 age category comprising women and youth, was also graced by the presence of Ward 6 Councillor T Mukowora.
Facilitator, Mr. O’Brien Makore began by administering a questionnaire to participants to gauge their participation in past budget consultative meetings. He then took them through steps involved in budget formulation and how critical it was for them as residents to organize themselves and give a collective voice to their developmental aspirations, as it was only through such forums that they could influence the developmental agenda and interrogate through oversight where gaps exist.
The pre-budget seminar seeks to ensure that residents attain sustainable livelihoods through being watchdogs of critical processes such as the budget-making process through participation.
In conclusion, the Councillor expressed gratitude to VISET for conducting such an important exercise and expressed optimism that this would result in greater participation by residents.
