My name is Tawananyasha Chigwazo from Mbare National, Harare. I was born on 4 December 1994 in Mbare. I started drawing at a young age. I am a self-taught artist. Ndiri mukomana asinga faririre zveshamari (antisocial). Kwete kuti ndakavenga vanhu ndotoshaya nguva nevanhu. Kutoswera nemunhu chaiko kunotondinetsa ndenge ndisiri comfort, ndongodakuswera ndiri ndega ndichiita. [I am antisocial, not because I do not like people, but because I just don’t have the time for people.]

[I never thought of becoming an artist, but after form four I started to enjoy art slowly but surely. After three months I could draw really well and that gave me the inspiration to continue drawing.]

Everyday ndichinogara KuMbare musika ndini uyo ne sketch book rangu ndaiita kana 5 hours ndakagara murenk muma bus muye ndichiita art yezvinhu zvese zvese zvandainge ndangoona, kwakatopedzisira kwatokubasa every day maskati kubasa ndozodzoka hanguu kumba later, kana ndaneta. [Everyday I am at Mbare Musika with my sketchbook. I often spend 5 hours a day drawing the things around me by the bus terminus in Mbare, then when I am tired I go home. It has sort of become my office.]

Parezvino handisati hanguu nda exhibitor my works material ndoichirikundinetsa asi one day work zvinhu zvinonetsa kuti unoita show nemaworks aunenge uchiita zvekufungidzira kutii ummm anenge akadhakwa hazvidiwe soo. Dai ndawana material netumweo tunhu ndoitaa show. [I have not yet done an art exhibition because I do not have enough work materials yet. I would not feel confident about doing an exhibition without enough material. If I had enough material and other things I would definitely do an exhibition.]

I am yet to exhibit but have sold work to private collectors. I was inspired by Lovemore Kambuzi who used to stay at our house and my work is inspired by township life’s triumphs and hardships.
