ZESN Observing Beitbridge, Chitungwiza and Matobo Local Authority By-Elections

Three Local Authority by-elections will be held on Saturday 23 February 2019 in Beitbridge East Ward 15, Chitungwiza South Ward 24 and Matobo North Ward 25. The seats fell vacant following the death of the incumbent councillors namely Alice Chihambakwe of Chitungwiza, Clara Ndlovu of Matobo and Boy Maniere Ndou of Beitbridge.

In line with its mandate of promoting democratic elections, the Zimbabwe Election Support Network (ZESN) is deploying 17 polling station based observers covering all polling stations, and three (3) mobile observer teams. The observation of the by-elections will enable the Network to measure compliance with the Constitution, Electoral Laws as well as regional and international standards thus informing its advocacy interventions for electoral reform.

ZESN is calling upon the electorate and the contestants in the constituency to ensure that peace prevails during the by-election.

As part of efforts to gather and disseminate credible electoral information, ZESN will be releasing regular information updates throughout the entire polling process. Citizens and interested stakeholders can receive updates and participate on the ZESN information outlets.
