ARTUZ condems with all strongest terms the arrest of Cde Robson Chere who is our Secretary General. Robson Chere was detained by Acturus mine security guards yesterday who then handed him over to the dreaded military intelligence and CIO operatives who came and picked him up. The timely response of the Zimbabwe Human Rights Lawyers through Doug Coltart was enough to force the security operatives to drop him off at Goromonzi Police Station where they are now trying to find a charge against him. The union feels the unlawful arrest want to weaken the hard work and genuine concerns of the teaching constituency. The arrest follows the successful salary camp and caravan march that the union had in the past few days and ongoing job action to seek the attention of the government to pay teachers in US dollars as agreed upon in 2012.
