On the 21st of February 2018, Vendors Initiative for Social and Economic Transformation (VISET) conducted a training workshop at Batanai Gardens with technical support from Election Resource Centre (ERC). The aim of the workshop was to complement the already existing programmes under the BVR Campaign that VISET is conducting. The workshop focused on training a new group of Socio-Economic Champions (SOCHAMPs) to create a new pool of members who will be conducting vendor to vendor street talks.
The street talks are conducted in an effort to enhance knowledge and understanding of young vendors and vendors living with disabilities on electoral processes, particularly voter registration, voters roll inspection and voting. The second objective of the workshop was also to facilitate the registration of all members who have not yet registered to vote in the upcoming elections. Over 50 participants attended the training workshop with members drawn from the Harare’s Central Business District and nearby suburbs. Members who have hearing impairments found the workshop to be of importance as they had questions around the BVR process.
