Zimbabweans responding to an unsafe political environment

The Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) vowed to stop political vultures who befuddle the learning environment by devouring on rights of children and teachers. Addressing members of the national executive council (NEC) at a meeting held in Chishawasha, ARTUZ President Mr Obert Masaraure said the union will do everything necessary to stop political vultures from preying on children and teachers’ rights. ARTUZ provincial coordinators all bemoaned the continued abuse the learning environment by ZANU PF officials who regrettably continue to force march teachers and pupils to attend their political gatherings. The union vowed to make sure schools remain safe zones for pupils and teachers by sustaining the Safe Schools Campaign which was launched by ARTUZ early this year. Under the campaign, ARTUZ will approach the courts of law to ensure errant political actors are refrained from violating educators and pupils’ constitutional rights. The campaign will also be intertwined to the notion of fostering peaceful co-existence of communities with teachers before, during and after elections.
