Doctors Attendance of the Graduation Ceremony

Our hearts are still bleeding after 120 hours with no word about the whereabouts of our President Dr Peter Magombeyi. Members of ZHDA recognise Dr Peter Magombeyi as a selfless individual who decided to put himself in the forefront in demanding a fair living wage for the health professionals and the rest of the civil service at large. Graduation is every university student’s dream and many parents and guardians have been waiting for this day for a whole lifetime.

Dr Peter might be somewhere cold, hurting, bleeding and in pain. He recently lost his uncle. His parents, brothers, sisters and relatives are in the darkest time of their lives. It is with these thoughts that fellow doctors have seen it as a lack of solidarity, Ubuntu, humanity, Christianity and unity to join celebrations at the graduation ceremony whilst the whereabouts of our fellow colleague who is also supposed to graduate this year at NUST are unknown.

It is therefore with utter most regret that the graduating classes of 2019 in the medical profession have unanimously decided not to attend the graduation ceremony scheduled for the 20th of September if Dr Peter Magombeyi has not been returned safely to his family. Instead of attending the graduation ceremony, doctors are going to join hands in the solidarity marches and in the search for Dr Peter Magombeyi.

We call upon responsible authorities to facilitate the immediate release of our fellow colleague and the University of Zimbabwe to consider postponing the ceremony up until the safety of citizens in the country is guaranteed by the safe return of Dr Peter Magombeyi to his family.
