Pay Day Funeral Set To Roll

The Amalgamated Rural Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe, ARTUZ organized Pay Day Funeral is set to be launched tomorrow 23 August 2019. The protest marks the beginning of monthly protests to be staged demanding a living wage for the teachers of Zimbabwe.

Teachers will convene at Ministry of Finance offices, New Government Complex Causeway side at 1000hrs. The educators will be wearing black, mourning the deaths of their salaries. Teachers used to earn around US$ 500 but now earn a paltry US$ 30, thanks to Mthuli Ncube and his IMF advised austerity measures.

ARTUZ invites citizens of the world to show solidarity with the teachers of Zimbabwe by wearing black and share photos on our social media platforms, twitter @ARTUZ_teachers and Facebook page Rural Teachers in Zimbabwe. You can also send pictures and condolence messages to WhatsApp +263714850548.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed that Unions just like churches are exempted from the dictates of the Public Order and Security Act. The police and other security agents will not interfere with the protest. State interference in a labour dispute between an employer and employees will be barbaric and push our country back to the era of slavery.

We demand an urgent restoration of the value of our salaries to the interbank rate of our old $US salaries.
