Amalgamated Rural Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) notes with great concern the continued erosion of teachers’ salaries as economic meltdown remains unmitigated.
We further note the arrogance of Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube who has the audacity to lie to the world that teachers and other civil servants are happy with the current slave wages.
The pay day reminds us of the death of our salaries and should be a day of national action.
ACTION: Teachers will be convening at the offices of the Ministry of Finance on every pay day to mourn the deaths of our salaries. Mourners should wear black as we send a clear message to Mthuli Ncube that we are not happy and we demand immediate restoration of the value of our salaries.
Pay Day Funerals will be held monthly after the August launch in Harare. The PDFs will later be devolved to all regions.
Solidarity: We urge citizens of the world to show solidarity with our teachers by wearing black on day to be declared.
